I'm NEW Here

FIRST TIME - WHAT TO EXPECT

I’M NEW…..wHAT SHOULD I EXPECT…

We're excited that you took the time to learn more about us! Below are some common questions visitors have when they come to our church. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to email or call us in advance. We look forward to seeing you in worship!

1. What are your services like?
Each Thursday and Sunday at Zion & St. John’s you'll find a relaxed and friendly atmosphere that is Christ-centered. You will be greeted as you arrive and receive a worship folder (bulletin). This will be a guide through the service.  We also occasionally use our large projection screens to help make the most of the practical and relevant message. Children are encouraged to attend with their parents and participate in the service. Services typically last about an hour. We follow the historic Liturgy, we sing a few hymns, hear God speak to us through the Bible lessons, listen to the sermon, and receive forgiveness of sins through the Means of Grace.

2. What will happen when I visit for the first time?
If you are visiting for the first time, we will not embarrass you, we will not have you stand up, and we will not make you give money! We know that many people want to check out a church and "be anonymous" for a while—and that's 100% fine with us! Come in, enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, and see if this is the church for you!

3. What do I wear to attend your services?
You'll find everything from casual clothes to business attire at our Sunday worship service. Come in what is comfortable for you, because at Zion & St. John’s  it is not about what you look like or what you wear. It is about worshiping our Savior Jesus together and growing in your personal connection to Him. You'll never be turned away for what you're wearing!

4. What is the worship like?
We invite you to join us each week as we worship together. Our services begin with praise and worship music. We encourage everyone to participate. Don't worry... if you don’t know the songs or can’t sing well - focus on the words that God is sharing with you. God comes to us in His Word and through the sacrament; we then respond with prayer and praise. Our Sunday services many times follow the historic liturgy of the Christian church , highlighting the great hymns and responses of Christianity.  We also try to bring in modern and contemporary songs and variation that keep our attention and focus on Jesus. Whenever you worship, we want you to leave the service renewed and enlightened and more connected to your Savior Jesus.

5. What about the Children?
Sunday school is available every Sunday (September to May) at 9:30 AM at both Zion & St. John’s locations. Your kids from grade K-8 are greeted by our wonderful teachers. Children have Bible stories and activities at their level.  Children are also welcome at the worship services so they can hear and learn about God’s truth too.

6. Do I need to give an offering? Since the money given supports the work of Zion & St. John’s, we don't expect our visitors to donate. Don't feel as if you are required to contribute; we're just glad to have you worshipping with us!

7. What about coffee? I need my coffee!
If you are the kind of person who likes to have a coffee in your hand at all times, you don't need to stop and get a cup on the way. Our Zion site offers coffee, water, and juice every Sunday as well as a variety of complementary snacks, fruit, and sometimes baked goods. Please enjoy these snacks and get a chance to meet and talk after the service.
